The Master Golf Teaching Professional®
Reaching Your Full Potential
By Bill Gilmore
USGTF Level IV Member, San Diego, CA

Why become a Master Golf Teaching Professional? Why try to break par or our own personal best score? The answers are quite simple: pride, the joy of accomplishment, and the recognition that accompanies such a feat.

Pride is usually the biggest reason we strive for perfection. We set our own standards, then we try to surpass them. This cycle contributes to not only athletic excellence, but to excellence in most any endeavor.

We watch our favorite touring professionals making gobs of money week after week. Within a few years, those that are capable of staying on tour are usually making huge sums of money. Yet, most aren’t happy unless they are winning. As teaching professionals we are driven by similar desires, to constantly seek perfection as ballstrikers or as analysts of a golf swing.

We are continually driven to seek more knowledge and unravel the endless mysteries that confront us in our teaching. Adding to our own personal knowledge and understanding of the workings of the golf swing is yet another reason to seek the credentials as a Master Teaching Professional
®. The Master’s course allows those of us to become the “best we can be,” to strut our stuff, and to also learn from our peers and the experienced teachers who conduct these courses. It is yet another step in the endless, yet exciting, journey of discovery and wonder that leads to becoming a truly great teaching professional.

When you carry the card of a Master Teaching Professional
®, you are recognized not only by your peers, but by all you meet as being a person who strives for excellence. Yes, your students and your employers will know, but you will know that you had what it took to pursue excellence and achieve your goals. In this competitive world, if you aren’t moving forward, you surely are falling backward.

Do you have what it takes? If you have been a Level III member of the USGTF for at least a year, you meet the basic requirement for obtaining this valuable certificate. Think you are expert in some area of interest for other teachers of the golf swing? Then put your ideas down on paper so that you can present them to your peers while at the next Masters Certification course. This will satisfy your thesis requirement for completing this course.

As if this isn’t enough to rattle the nerves a bit, you will have to pass a demanding written test which tells us you really know your stuff and have a great grasp of not only understanding the golf swing, but the abilities to teach these concepts effectively. You can’t relax yet - you still have to show us your shotmaking skills in front of examiners and the class as well. After all, conquering the “nerves” and being able to demonstrate shots effectively is part of a Master Teaching Pro’s repertoire.

Now you can see why pride plays such a huge role in obtaining these advanced credentials. If you make it through successfully, you truly have a lot to be proud of, and an experience you will cherish forever. Only then can you have the distinct honor of being a USGTF Master Teaching Professional
®.

So go ahead, stop procrastinating. Put yourself to the test and your career into “overdrive.” Have fun and the experience of a lifetime while pursuing your Master’s credentials!
