CARLOS DEBARROS
Level III Member, Miami, Florida

We arrived in the USA from Cuba in 1960, poor and with just the clothes on our backs. We were in Miami for a few weeks living on peanut butter, bread and milk given to us by the Red Cross. We were then sent to a family in New York after we were cleared by U.S. immigration. It was a struggle for my parents, since my mom never worked and my dad was a professor at one of Cuba’s elite universities.

I was never much into golfing in my younger days; actually, I really did not get involved in golf until the mid 1980’s at a much older age. Later in life I found myself in Texas with Motorola and at a crossroads in my career path. I was questioning myself whether this was what I wanted to continue doing or whether a change was needed.

While thumbing through a Golf Digest magazine, an advertisement for the USGTF caught my eye. I spoke with my wife Elizabeth, and she encouraged me to take the certification class, so in 1997 I became a USGTF teaching professional and it was a great class and a great time!

In 2003 I was offered the pro shop at Palm Beach Polo Golf and Country Club! Over the past four years so many members have become good friends. I continue to work outside my golf business and look forward again to the day that I can just teach every day and play golf! My pro shop is always open to all USGTF members. We have it all, including a work shop, as I am also a master club builder!
